In 723, "saint" Boniface cuts the tree, which was saint to all German pagans, the Donar's Oak (near Fritzlar). By doing so, Boniface wanted to demonstrate the weakness of the ancient gods to the pagan population.

Later, a judeo-christian temple of "saint" Peter was built from that tree.

In 754, Boniface and 50 people of his retinue were murdered by pagans while attempting a baptism ritual near Dokkum.
