Whether there is a limit to a excessive consumption?

The mankind needs not one, but one and a half of Earth to continue to live without changes in the habits.

Also for the last 40 years the number of vertebrate animals in the world has decreased twice. Of course scientists did not recalculate all individuals manually: their data are based on dynamics of number about ten thousand populations of 3038 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibia and fishes. In total on Earth about 60 thousand species of vertebrata are described.
The indicator of number of animals is called an index of the live planet and the indicator concerning natural resources — an ecological trace. The ecological trace by their definition is the area necessary to make the natural resources and the benefits of an ecosystem consumed by us. This trace exceeds planet biocapacity now — that area which is at our disposal.

Today the mankind cuts down trees quicker than they grow, catches fish more often than new appears, releases more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than can absorb the woods and oceans. The countries with the biggest ecological trace per capita is Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Denmark and Belgium. Russia takes the 39th place in this list. But our country is included into the list of the states with the biggest ecological trace in absolute values — along with China, the USA, India and Brazil. Thus if the average Russian wants to continue to exist without changing anything in the way of life two planets Earth are necessary.

We hope that this small article will force many to reconsider the habits!
