Lebensform movement. Back to the nature!

In the beginning of 20th century Germany was one the most progressive
states. Traditional ways of living in the village were being replaced
by the industrialization and the growth of huge cities. This problems
causes german people to start thinking the other way - the way back to
the Nature. The most popular organization ( known as well as
Wandervogel ) of this, counter - urbanist type, was Lebensform ( The
life's reform ). Lebensform was the unity of hundreds of in Germany,
Austria and Switzerland. Movement members used to criticize urbanism
and claimed to vegetarianism, the " raw food diet ", nudism, sexual
emancipation, reject of popular clothing - tendencies, healthy way of
live and paganism. Lebensform was formed by people of many political
views, such as anarchism, nationalism and socialism.
One of the most known Lebensform societies was Monte Verità ( mount of
the Verity ) on the hill near Ascona, Switzerland. This place was the
gathering - point of Europe's flaming minds with K. G. Jung, H. Hesse
among them. By the way, Siddhartha was inspired by Hesse's visit to
that place.
The most respectable Lebensform activist and " prophet " was Karl
Wilhelm Diefenbach, follower of Tolstoy idea, anarchist, vegetarian
and founder of "Himmelhof" community. You also can find Hugo Höpener (
Fidus ) among Diefenbach's students. Höpener's impact on Lebensform
ideas was incredibly great. Fidus used to draw naked people among the
primordial Nature, but his people looked non- vulgar. They were as
pure wolves, tigers, deers and like every beast in it's nature. Some
of Höpener's paintings show us a man and woman in some kind of tantric
unity. His most known picture " Gebet zum Licht " ( Prayer of a light
), has different varies, but in every case of it, it shows us a man,
that is staying in algiz - rune pose, with his hands, directed to the
sky. In year 1932 Fidus joins a national- socialists party. Another
famous painter, who's ideas were close to Lebensfrom's, - Ludwig
Fahrenkrog, founder of "völkische" group "Deutscher Bund für
Persönlichkeitskultur" and publisher of " Mehr Licht! " ( More Light!
" the famous Goethe'a last words ) magazine. Fahrenkrog's painting
themes are - germanic paganism, beauty of the human's body and the
Nature.
Nudism/naturism, from Lebensfrom's point of view, was the option, that
lead people back to basics and rejection of judo- christian dogmas.
Later, this cult of naked and wealthy body was widely- cultivated in
Third Reich. It makes fu , that, after Germany's defeat in the Second
World War, the new " democratic " power has banned nudism, as a nazi-
ideology.
The Lebensform movement has great influence on Blut und Boden ( Blood
and Soil ) concept and bas become one of national-
socialism key- parts. What's more, Lebensform has an important role in
popularizing vegetarian diet in Europe.
